o50s Mens Boccia programme

Following the establishment of the Older Men in Sport working group in 2008, an initial consultation was held with 25 men attending and receiving the opportunity to participate in a variety of new activities (eg Boccia, Kurling, Pitchy, etc).

Frank Fahey of Fizzical, Martina Mullin of Go For Life and members of the Older Men in Sport working group of the Partnership were in attendance on the day, and helped to facilitate a number of discussions on the barriers to older men participating in sport, the importance of physical activity and the development of a potential programme of physical activities.

Following on from the success of the day, a second Older Men in Sport Consultation Day took place in Kilmurray Hall where a programme of activities was drawn up in which four groups participated - Ballycumber, Belmont, Clonbullogue and Rahan. Clonbullogue were the winners of the inaugural o50s Mens Boccia League. An evaluation evening was held on the 24th June. The evening went well and the programme is due to be rolled out again in the last quarter of 2009.

The second annual o50s Mens Boccia League commenced in November 2009. Five teams participated in the  the league - Ballycumber, Banagher, Belmont, Clonbullogue and Rahan. Clonbullogue were once again victorious.
