Link 2 B Active

Link 2 B Active, the brain child of South County Dublin Sports Partnership, and supported by the Irish Sports Council is now being rolled out nationally across all Local Sports Partnerships.

Programme overview

The programme is designed to tackle the challenge of affordability and access to physical activity participation where there is a cost or membership involved for people who are unemployed.

Link 2 B Active creates an opportunity for the unemployed to access sports facilities (e.g. gyms, leisure centres, all weather pitches, etc) at a reduced rate, encouraging them to participate in recreational activities, thereby allowing them to achieve the recommended 30 minutes of moderate physical activity for adults five days a week as outlined in the National Physical Activity Guidelines. For more information on the National Physical Activity Guidelines, check out www.getirelandactive.ie.

How it works

Local sports facilities will be asked to develop special offers (complete with terms and conditions) for the use of their facilities by those who are unemployed.

Offaly Sports Partnership will develop a Link 2 B Active page on its website on which all the offers available throughout the county will be promoted.

Furthermore, promotional material for this programme will be distributed through social welfare offices, community centres, libraries, etc to inform people about the programme.

Eligibility

The Link 2 B Active programme is open to anyone in receipt of unemployment assistance such as Jobseekers Allowance, Jobseekers Benefit or Back to Education payments. Eligible applicants will be required to show the Link 2 B Active facility proof of payment from the Department of Social and Family Affairs (DSFA) or the Department of Social Protection (DSP). This can be in the form of a weekly postal draft receipt of bank statement. No copies will be taken by the facility.

Once eligibility is confirmed, applicants will be issued with a Link 2 B Active card valid for three months which can be used in any of the Link 2 B Active facilities. To renew the card, members will be asked to show up to date proof of payment from the SFA or DSP.
