The Croghan Hill Challenge will take place on Saturday, June 25 on an obstacle cross country course developed by a local landowner, Peter Moore.
The course is located on the side of Croghan Hill and with various water tests and other obstacles, it is a real test of stamina.
3km and 5km courses will be in operation on June 25 with the 5km race starting at 1.00pm and the 3km race on at 2.00pm.
Athletes and fitness enthusiasts from around the countries are competing in the event and a number of charities and clubs, etc, are using the event to raise much needed funds.
The list of approved charities is Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin; The National Children's Hospital, Tallaght; LARCC Cancer Support Centre, Westmeath; The Irish Cancer Society; Rhode Playground Project; Offaly Rehab Services; Barnardos Children's Charity; The Irish Society for Autism; Rhode Parish Development Fund; Temple Street Children's Hospital; and the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.
The obstacles on the course include the chu chi tunnel, the great wall, the Croghan Hill rope bridge, the Quincy slippy slide, Anna's mud bath, Sherwood Forest, the coffin and much more.
The course is regularly used by local sports clubs and teams. The Croghan Hill Challenge will really showcase the course and the entry fee is 30 euros for individuals, 80 euros for teams of four and 15 euros for juniors.
