Sport Inclusion Development Programme

What is the Sports Inclusion Development Programme?

In 2006, the Dormant Accounts Fund earmarked €2 million nationally for projects which addressed the imbalance in opportunities for people with physical, learning and sensory disabilities to participate in sport and physical activity.

Sport Ireland in collaboration with the network of Local Sports Partnerships identified the need to appoint dedicated Sports Inclusion Development Officers at county level to address current gaps in the provision of sport, recreation and physical activity for people with disabilities. Since 2008 and with the support of funding from the Dormant Accounts Disbursement Fund, Sport Ireland, the Health Services Executive, Offaly County Council and the Department of Justice and Equality (disability awareness fund 2018), Offaly Sports Partnership has delivered a Sports Inclusion Development Programme to increase the participation of people with disabilities in sport and physical activity
