Tullamore American Football Club

ON a blustery Sunday afternoon, Drogheda Lightning came to Tullamore with the top spot in the IAFL DV-8 division up for grabs after both teams won their opening games.

The first quarter of the game proved to be very tense as both teams defenses proved very strong and no-one wanted to make the first mistake to concede that all important opening score, but as the game entered the second quarter Tullamore's power and determination took hold as they began to take charge and dominate as running back Daire O'Beirne put over the game's first score and full back Finbarr Glynn made the conversion, an injury to Tullamore quarterback Erin Kelly gave David Maloney his first start at the position and he immediately went to the air and connected with wide receiver Renaild Eila from 30 yards with an excellent pass this proved a crucial turning point as Tullamore started to go up through the gears and both offense and defense.

Tullamore's defensive line of Pat Lowbridge, Podge Merlehan and Damien Gilessen punished every small error with skill and physicality and as a tiring Drogheda team just seemed to run out of steam as they could not answer the level of intensity now been placed on them and in the end the 30-0 final scoreline was well deserved.
