Bike Week 2023

Bike Week, a celebration of cycling, is back for 2023; and takes place from Saturday 13/05 to Sunday 21/05

Enjoy eight days on two wheels celebrating and promoting all that is great about cycling. There is quite literally something for all ages and abilities, from free bike checks, fun cycles, lunchtime rides, school cycle events, bike festivals and much more. In Offaly, there are a wide range of events taking place including: - 

Saturday, 13th May - Grand Canal Greenway Relay

Two route options available: -
Option 1 (experienced cyclists) - George’s Bridge, Edenderry to Pollagh Community Shop & Grand Canal Greenway Café; departing George’s Bridge, Edenderry at 09:30am (50k with an option for return trip from Pollagh to Edenderry totalling 100km, completed at own risk)

Option 2 (recreational cyclists, families, etc.) – “stages” event
Stage 1 - George’s Bridge, Edenderry to Molesworth Bridge (greenway carpark), Daingean; departing George’s Bridge, Edenderry at 10:00am (17km)

Stage 2 – Molesworth Bridge, Daingean to The Old Warehouse, Bury Quay, Tullamore; departing  Molesworth Bridge (greenway carpark), Daingean at 11:30am (14.5km)

Stage 3 – The Old Warehouse, Bury Quay, Tullamore to The Thatch, Rahan; departing The Old Warehouse, Bury Quay, Tullamore at 13:00pm (8.5km)

Stage 4 – The Thatch, Rahan to Pollagh Community Shop & Grand Canal Greenway Café; departing The Thatch, Rahan at 14:00pm (8km)

Refreshments available at each “stages” stop: -
i.    Molesworth Bridge (greenway carpark), Daingean;
ii.    The Old Warehouse, Bury Quay, Tullamore;
iii.    The Thatch, Rahan; and
iv.    Pollagh Community Shop & Café

Ride leaders will be on hand to support less experienced riders and families to complete the “stages” sections. Shuttle service and Limited bike hire also available.

Ticket sales for this free event close on Wednesday, 10th May (extended from Sunday, 7th May)

Other events also on offer include: -

  • School / Club cycles in Ferbane and Tullamore (supported by Lynx and Tullamore Cycling Clubs)
  • Lunchtime cycle on Wednesday, 17th May in Birr; departing 12.30pm from Birr Civic Offices (sipported by Wolftrap Cycling Club)
