Offaly Sports Partnership has established a research partnership with SHE (sport, exercise and health) TUS to explore issues affecting women in sport.
Among the issues being explored are "The Youth Female Athlete". Check out the SHE TUS website for the research paper on "The Youth Female Athlete, Sex and Gender Considerations for Supporting Adolescent Athletes".
Furthermore, SHE TUS are in the process of publishing various educational resources to support women in sport including: -
- The Female Athlete Toolkit - a 'first' collaboration between SHE TUS, the Camogie Association and Ladies Gaelic Football Association to introduce pioneering resources aimed at supporting and empowering female athletes in Camogie and Ladies' Gaelic Football. Check the toolkit out here
- Menstrual Cycle resources - check out the menstrual cycle resources here
- Menopause toolkits - this work forms part of wider research on menopause supported by Sport Ireland, UPMC Institute for Health and TUS. Check out the menopause toolkits here
Additionally, Sport Ireland and Offaly County Council are supporting menstrual health in sport through the: -
- delivery of a "Period Positive Campaign" for teenage girls - created by teen girls for teen girls, the Sport Ireland Her Moves Period Positive Posters are all about teen girls, sport and physical activity, and their menstrual cycle
- delivery of a "Period Dignity" project in Offaly - through the support of Healthy Offaly and the Department of Health, Offaly County Council now provide free period products in various locations in Offaly for those that need them.
