Older People / PALs / Group Leaders - Peer Research on Public Spaces (PROPS 22)

 27 Apr 2022

Would you like to see more older people using public spaces for physical activity?

Age & Opportunity have received funding from Sport Ireland and Healthy Ireland to carry out a study on the barriers and motivators of using public space for physical activity in Ireland with Age & Opportunity’s network of Physical Activity Leaders (PALs) taking the lead on the research as citizen researchers.

Following training with Age & Opportunity and our research partner Straightforward Research 20 researchers will each interview 10 peers with the purpose of discovering barriers and motivators to using public spaces for physical activity.   Each researcher will also conduct a short piece of desk research and produce a best practice case study from another part of the world.  Both interviews and case studies will form the basis for a report into current and potential value of public spaces for participation by older persons in physical activity.  We have a budget of €500 for each researcher.  This can be paid either via employment or by organising a physical activity event or course of your choice for you individually or for your group.

Training for the researchers will take place via zoom from 11am – 1pm on 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th May. We would be delighted if you would take on the role of researcher and be part of this very important piece of work.

If you would like to take part please let us know as soon as possible and we will be in contact with you again. If you would like to find out more do not hesitate to contact Ciara on 01 8057733 or email active@ageandopportunity.ie or phone Sue 087 9171488.
