Eamonn Henry, Coordinator with Offaly Sports Partnership said that the purpose of the meetings is four-fold: -
- to give sporting and community organisations a greater understanding of the work that the Sports Partnership does;
- to generate new ideas for its 2023 funding application;
- to outline plans for regular engagement with sporting bodies on an annual basis; and
- to publicise details for its next call for a new Community Sports Hub in the county.
Mr. Henry added that at least one of its development officers - Jean Brady (Sports Inclusion Development Officer), Denise Coghill (Community Sports Development Officer), and Liam O’Reilly (ACE - Assisting Children Excel Project Coordinator) - would attend each of the meetings.
Cllr Robert Mc Dermott, Chairperson of Offaly Sports Partnership encouraged sporting bodies to attend the information sessions. “We are interested in hearing the views of sporting and community organisations across the county”, said Cllr Mc Dermott.
He added that the information about Community Sports Hubs would be particularly relevant to those in attendance. He explained that through Dormant Accounts funding, the Sports Partnership has already supported a Sports Hub operating out of Crinkle; is currently affording support to activities in Daingean; and has also earmarked Mucklagh for investment. “The next call for a new location to be considered for support is imminent”, said Cllr Mc Dermott.
