For the first time in Club history, an underage Tullamore Town team is competing in a national final.
Tullamore Town Blues’ Under 16s team are preparing for a major occasion as they line up against Donegal Town in the SFAI National Trophy Final this Sunday, 10 May, at Evergreen Park, Kilkenny (R95 HX65), with a 4.00pm kick-off. Tullamore Town FC Chairperson, Alan Kelly outlines
“With national silverware on the line, anticipation is building around a group of young players who have already shown quality, commitment, and pride in the famous blue jersey. This latest challenge is hot on the heels of the team’s recent success as Midlands Schoolboy League U16 Paddy Lennon Cup Winners defeating St Francis, Athlone 3-0 in Clara over the May bank holiday weekend.”
Captained by Evan Doran, the squad’s progress can be credited to the tireless efforts of the coaching team of Ciaran Nestor, John Grennan, and Damien Kelly. Their dedication has been evident throughout the season, guiding the panel with a strong emphasis on football development, teamwork, and personal growth.
“Training sessions have been intense but positive, helping players to sharpen their technical skills while also building confidence and resilience” confirms Ciaran.
The Under 16s team’s journey in this year’s SFAI National Trophy has showcased the depth of talent coming through at Tullamore Town. Impressive performances along the way have underlined the players’ tactical awareness and maturity, with the team showing the ability to compete, adapt, and rise to challenges at national level. Each round has brought valuable experience, and the players have responded with discipline and belief.
Off the pitch, the background team and parents deserve enormous credit. Match logistics, travel, and constant encouragement have all played a vital role in supporting these young footballers. The sense of community around the squad has helped create an environment where players feel backed and motivated every time they step onto the field.
Sunday’s clash with Donegal Town represents another landmark moment in the team’s development. Facing strong opposition on neutral ground, the boys will no doubt bring their trademark work ethic and togetherness to Kilkenny. Whatever the outcome, this group has already achieved a great deal, and they continue to do Tullamore Town Blues proud. Supporters are encouraged to come along and show their backing for a team that represents the future of the club.
