Walking Football for Older Men’s Groups of all abilities

 11 May 2022

Thanks to funding from Sport Ireland, Age & Opportunity are delighted to be able to offer an ‘Introduction to Walking Football’ to older Men’s groups.

This five week programme, consisting of one hours sessions, is a fun way to socialise and exercise with members from your own and/or other groups. Walking football is a safe and accessible sport and can be played by anyone, even if they  have never played football before.

Walking football player and lead coach Peter McNulty says

Walking football is great fun and delivers significant benefits such as improved physical, mental and social health”.

Norman Farragher of Naas Men’s Shed who took part in the programme last year noted

This has been so beneficial to the mental and physical health of our Shedders. We laughed, we slagged, we bragged and we loved it. The benefits to Shedders taking part in an activity like this is enormous.”

The programme is fully funded by Sport Ireland and therefore no cost is incurred by the participants. Each participating group will receive equipment including footballs and bibs afterwards so they can continue to play once the programme has finished. Funding also covers the cost of venue hire and refreshments for the five weeks of the programme.
