Women in Sport Week 2026
Women in Sport week is an annual Sport Ireland initiative supported by its stakeholders: National Governing Bodies, Local Sports Partnerships, and other funded bodies and is taking place from March 2-8th, 2026
Women in Sport Week was created to coincide with International Women’s Day (March 8th). A day widely celebrated across the world focusing on the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women as well as highlighting the challenges, barriers and inequalities that still exist. Women in Sport Week supports the objectives and actions outlined within Sport Ireland’s Policy on Women in Sport (WIS), in which Visibility is a key pillar.
Sport Ireland's theme for Women in Sport Week 2026 is “Same Energy”. Same Energy challenges us to ask whether we’re bringing the same energy, excitement, commitment and visibility to women’s sport as we do to in men’s sport. Whether it's planning for the next international fixture or deciding on budgets for the year ahead. “Same Energy” is a call to everyone; sports administrators, fans, coaches, officials, organisations and communities to get behind women and girls in sport and match that energy.
The aim of Women in Sport Week is to:
- Celebrate every and girl sport who plays, coaches, officiates, leads or works in sport
- Promote and highlight the ongoing work of Sport Ireland, NGBs, LSPs, and other stakeholders and clubs on Women in Sport.
- Highlight some of the programmes/initiatives funded by Sport Ireland Women in Sport Programme.
Among the programmes being delivered in Offaly are: -
- 3 v 3 basketball
- Boxercise for women, Killeigh
- Camogie taster session
- GAA blitz
- Gymnastics for girls
- S&C for teenage girls in sport
- Tullamore Ladies Golf
